A prominent civil society organisation, Stayalert Human Rights Awareness Initiative, has given high marks to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its achievements in national security during its first year in office.
During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Amechi Chuks Oyema, the organisation’s Director of Publicity, commended the Tinubu-Shettima administration for creating a conducive environment that has enabled the military to effectively combat insecurity.
Oyema also praised the Nigerian Armed Forces, led by General Christopher Musa, for their successful operations against various security threats due to improved inter-service cooperation.
“We want to use this opportunity to laud the CDS for the synergy seen in the Armed Forces. It is indeed highly commendable. This is why positive results are coming out from the different theatres of operation,” said Oyema.
He said Stayalert’s investigation indicates that increased military operations have significantly pressured terrorists, insurgents, and other criminals.
According to Oyema, over 4,600 hostages have been rescued, more than 9,300 hostile individuals neutralized, and over 7,000 terrorists and bandits arrested over the past year.
“We can boldly say that in the past year, the security situation has improved. The stay-at-home orders in the South-East have fizzled out. People in that region are now more relaxed, as well as in the North-East and North-West. We can’t but commend the AFN,” he added.
Oyema highlighted that numerous high-ranking terrorist commanders have surrendered, attributing this to intensified military efforts. He also praised the military’s unwavering commitment to democracy under General Musa’s leadership.
“We can attest that the Armed Forces of Nigeria has not just said it is loyal to the constitution of the country, the leadership has continued to stress that democracy is the best. We commend the CDS for using every opportunity to affirm their loyalty to the constitution,” Oyema stated.
Discussing the military’s efforts against economic sabotage in the Niger Delta, Oyema lauded the relentless pursuit of oil thieves by the Armed Forces.
“From what the AFN is doing, the economic saboteurs have no option but to abandon their illicit activities. And of course, the economy is benefitting as the theft of our commonwealth is being blocked,” he noted.
