The Kwara State Police Command successfully rescued a two-year-old child and eleven market women who were kidnapped last Wednesday in the Oke-Ode axis of Ifelodun local government area, PlatinumPost reports.
The women were returning from trading at Oke-Ode market when they were ambushed by kidnappers near Oyi Bridge in Yaaru/Olayinka Village along the Ajase-Ipo/Oke-Ode Road.
Spokesperson for the Kwara Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the rescue on Tuesday. She reported that a combined team of security agencies combed the forest and managed to free all twelve victims. “All the victims have been rescued and released to their families,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated. Some of the injured were treated at the General Hospital in Share, Ifelodun local government, and have since been discharged.
Mr. Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, Coordinator of Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch, praised the joint security operatives for their bravery and dedication in rescuing the abductees. He commended the steadfast efforts of hunters, vigilantes, and the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Police Force.
Oyin-Zubair recounted that fifteen market women were initially kidnapped on the highway between 6-7pm. Thanks to the immediate response from local hunters and vigilantes, nine were freed the following day. The rescue team continued to search the forests tirelessly until the remaining victims were liberated on Monday.
This successful operation underscores the importance of community collaboration and the relentless efforts of security personnel in combating kidnapping and ensuring public safety.
