BREAKING: ECOWAS ministers meet over Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger

The Foreign Affairs Ministers of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are gathering to examine the announced withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Niger Republic from the regional organization.

The conference at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja will also address the political situation in Senegal, where the President postponed the presidential election, resulting in enormous protests.

According to ECOWAS Commission President, Dr. Alieu Touray, the conference would address the notification of withdrawal of the three countries, as well as broader implementation.

Touray stressed that as a community, this is the best time for the sub-region to stay together despite the challenges.

He reminded the gathering that ECOWAS is not an institution but a community.

He said the claims given by the countries have no real basis and were hasty.

More details to follow…
