Nigerian Canadian, Uzoma Asagwara, Appointed Health Minister And Deputy Premier In Canada

A Nigerian born Canadian, Uzoma Chioma Asagwara, has been appointed Health Minister in Canada.

Uzoma has become the first black person and woman to achieve this feat after having served her legislative tenure as the first black in that position in the province of Manitoba and Canada.

She was first sworn in as the first black person ever elected to the Legislature Assembly of Manitoba on 27 September 2019 as part of Manitoba’s New Democratic Party caucus before her new appointment.

Asagwara, a native of Olokoro in Umuahia, Abia State capital city.

Her appointment was was made known by the Governor of Abia state, Alex Oti, through his Twitter handle on Sunday afternoon.

In the tweet:“I am delighted to congratulate Uzoma Chioma Asagwara on her historic appointment as the new Health Minister and Deputy Premier of the Province of Manitoba, Canada.

“This is a remarkable achievement that showcases her dedication, excellence, and leadership in the fields of health and public service”, Abia State Governor stated.

He further appealed to the Nigerian youths to draw inspiration from Chioma Asagwara’s latest accomplishment which puts Nigeria on international limelight.

“Uzoma Chioma Asagwara is a proud daughter of Abia State, born to Nigerian parents from Olokoro Umuahia. Her success story serves as an inspiration to all Nigerians, particularly the youths, who have dreams and talents to nurture. She exemplifies that with passion, dedication, and perseverance, no goal is unattainable.

Reacting to the development, the Universal Migration Enlightenment Centre, UMEC, has applauded the feat recorded by Uzoma Chioma Asagwara.

UMEC, Ambassador Barth Ikiebe, the executive Secretary, said the feat should serve as a moral booster for the Nigerian youths to shun negative tendencies while Abroad.

” Nigerian Youths are among the best in the area of Humanitarian services and Technology in any part of the World they find themselves, contributing their quota to the nation’s development” , Ikiebe noted.

Ikiebe noted that the body is partnering with the Global Migration Research Institute, Maryland, USA, to begin a State wide campaign on Migration Enlightenment targeting the Youths.
