The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for an emergency National Executive Council (NEC).
The emergency meeting was called over the Union expiration of its ultimatum for the federal government to address her demands.
Recall NLC had declared two- day warning strike early this month over federal government failure to address the unon demands.
After the two days warning strike embarked, the congress said at the end of 21 days, if government didn’t address grievances, it would commence a total strike.
Part of the communique reads: “Furthermore, it considered the government’s deliberate neglect and disregard for engaging with national stakeholders through the channels of social dialogue, a commitment it had solemnly declared during the President’s inaugural address on May 29, 2023.
“It further examined the renewed threats against trade unions and their leaders by various Governors and organisations and was alarmed on the new dimensions and shape these sordid events have taken.
“Consequently, NEC-in-Session resolved to embark on a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation within 14 working days or 21 days from today Until steps are taken by the Government to address the excruciating mass suffering and impoverishment being experienced around the country”.
According to avaliable information, the emergency NEC meeting holding on Tuesday 26th , September , 2023 is primarily to take a decision on the next line of action.
