A Nigerian public commentator and social critic based in Canada, Prince Olujimi Adekanle has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to revisit the criminal charges against the suspended police officer, DCP Abba Kyari.
Abba Kyari was indicted by a district court in the United States of America July, 2023, in a $1.1m fraud case involving Ramon Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi.
According to US court documents, Huspuppi had alleged that he bribed Kyari to arrest Vincent, an associate of his.
Kyari also allegedly sent Abbas bank account details for an account into which Abbas could deposit payment for Vincent’s arrest and imprisonment.
A former Commander of the dreaded Inspector-General of Police, IGP-Intelligence Response Team, (IRT), Kyari before his downfall was celebrated locally and internationally as a crime buster, fearless and honest policeman.
Delivering a public lecture in Toronto Canada, Adekanle stressed that the case of human rights violation, fraud and murder against Abba Kyari should not be swept under the carpet.
In his statement: The suspended police officer, DSP Abba Kyari should be repatriated to the US authority to answer criminal charges against him to strengthen Nigeria relationship with the North America.
“Tinubu must compel the Nigeria’s, DCP Abba Kyari to immediately submit himself to the US court to clear his name from the $1.1 million bribe allegation levelled against him by a suspected fraudster Hushpuppi.
“It is distressing that the integrity of our nation has fallen so abysmally low with the way Nigerian government is handling criminal charges against the former police officer.
Speaking further:“I urge President Tinubu not to ease out this case of corruption but should immediately restore the integrity and image of our nation by allowing Abba kyari to abide by the court summons and go to the US to submit himself for necessary interrogation so as to clear his name, police and the nation”.
Adekanle, further challenge the former police officer to submit himself to the jurisdiction of the district Court in the United States of America to prove his innocence.
