The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken 24 Bayero University Kano (BUK) undergraduate students into custody for their alleged role in internet fraud.
The suspects were apprehended on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in a sting operation near the university’s New Site, following weeks of surveillance and actionable intelligence, as announced by the commission via its official X handle.
Several mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle were among the items seized from the suspects. The commission reported that the students were allegedly involved in various forms of cybercrime, including identity theft and online financial scams.
Those arrested include Ismaíl Nura, Suleyman Ayeh, Usman Abdulrazaq, Emmanuel Chigozie, Daniel Imoter, and Abdulmajeed Suleiman, among others. The EFCC has assured the public that the suspects will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The agency reaffirmed its dedication to eradicating cybercrime in Nigeria and cautioned students engaging in fraudulent activities that they will face the full force of the law, sparking concern among the academic community and Kano residents about the growing trend of cybercrime among undergraduates.
