Operatives of the Directorate of State Services have arrested and interrogated two members of the Lagos state House of Assembly in connection with the impeachment of former speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, SAVANNAH NEWSNOW REPORTS.
Sources claim that Hon Lanre Afinni and Hon Sylvester Ogunkelu were summoned and interrogated for allegedly vandalizing government property, with Afinni being released on administrative bail due to health concerns, while Ogunkelu remains in DSS custody.
According to sources, both individuals were questioned by investigative officers on Wednesday.
On the day of Obasa’s removal, the Clerk of the House, Barrister Lekan Onafeko, was absent, and his office was locked.
Hon. Ogunkelu and Hon. Afinni reportedly led the effort to retrieve the mace, breaking down the door and damaging government property in the process.
“It is on these grounds that the operatives invited them. As we speak, Sketel is in detention while Afinni was released due to his health challenges,” the source said.
Mudashiru Obasa was removed as speaker of the State assembly on January 13 and replaced with his deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, while he was in the United States, but he has disputed the impeachment process, claiming he remains speaker until due process is followed.
